Rediscover the Art of Storytelling.

David has been writing for a number of years and released his first Novel in 2025. He realised that the art of storytelling was being diluted, transformed and ultimately lost. In a world of artificial intelligence and lots of quick fix media the long form of telling, reading, speaking and discovering a story is being replaced with fast, quick, easy media that loses the essence of a tale.

Storytelling begins with….

A fantasy landscape with jagged mountains and clouds, a swirling fiery vortex in the sky, and a book titled 'In the Depths of a Man's Mind' by David McCann standing on a pedestal in the foreground.

Rediscover the art of story telling🗣️

Have you ever had a great story to tell and yet when you try to tell it, you fumble. 😬

Here is a couple of ways to reshape how to tell the story. 🧐

1) Use examples of things you know well.
If you are trying to explain something super complex to a crowd try to think you are explaining it to you your nephew who is no older than 5. They will not pay attention for long so grab their attention use sock puppets be brave and creative.

This will allow you to get real simple.

2) Follow this simple story telling approach.
- I have a thing
- the thing is used for….., the thing can do these things…..
- which can help you by ……
- I used the thing and found these results….
- would you like to try the thing…..
- then go here… speak to me after ….

This helps to give you structure and purpose to what you say whilst giving clear instruction to the individual

3) If you are telling creative story.
- you are the person who created the story so you are the one with the information.
- be open and free with how you tell it let your passion for the story come through.
- don’t be afraid to be funny or laugh or be free with your ideas.
- if talking about a character describe them or relate them to someone you might know mutually.
- people will relate to a story if it teaches them something, makes them feel a certain way helps them believe ina purpose.

At the end of the day there are structured techniques and there are naturally good story tellers but regardless story telling has been part of the human culture since the first grunts were made and understood. So don’t be afraid to try.

You won’t get any better at it if you don’t practice and Try.

Ever wandered the shadowed corners of an old library, where dust mites swirl like tiny reluctant stars?

There’s a quiet alchemy there—a sense that storytelling isn’t just retelling events, but breathing life into the ordinary.

True stories transform whispers into roars, scars into sagas, laughter into living legends.
That’s the magic we tap into when we dare to narrate anew.

What memory or moment in your life would you turn into a story?
Share your moment and who it might be in the comments—someone out there may need to hear it.

A wooden table with a handwritten letter, a sketch of three characters labeled Hero, Mentor, and Shadow, a pocket watch, and a coffee cup with latte art, with a small stone and a lamp in the background.

Ever wonder what makes a character linger with you long after the story ends?

Ever wonder what makes a character linger with you long after the story ends?
It’s all in the details—archetypes that echo through time: the hero on their journey, the mentor with quiet wisdom, the shadow wrestling with truth. Sometimes, even a barista serves up more than caffeine—a sage with a story in every pour.

Objects carry memory too: a cracked pocket watch, a worn old book, a steaming latte. Each one layered with meaning, each one a silent symbol that shapes the narrative.

Shifting perspective breathes new life: what if the wolf was the guardian, not the villain? What happens when a side character gets the spotlight? Suddenly, the usual story becomes adventure again.

If you had to inhabit an archetype for a day, which would you choose—and what story would you make your own?
Drop your answer below and let’s see what takes shape.

All stories begin with an initial idea, and that idea often originates from a deeply personal experience, a meaningful interaction with someone else, a significant trauma in our lives, or countless other possible sources that shape our perspective and creativity.

Where do you start

Think back on your life, is there an event a turning point or a place that changed the direction of your life, your experience or your perspective. That is your starting point. Now write about it and see what you find.

“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
