Marcus - Loyal Squire and Companion
Marcus
Marcus was a young man of light-coloured hair, no older than fourteen, perhaps fifteen summers. Stout-looking for his age, he was undeniably a handsome lad, although he appeared slightly dishevelled most of the time.
Marcus shared a profound bond with his friend Higant, a connection that felt thicker than blood, one that only true friends could cultivate. Both he and Higant find themselves unexpectedly immersed in a centuries-old plot, one that holds secrets long buried.
Stripped from the familiarity of his home, Marcus is kidnapped and thrust on a journey that will lead him to uncover hidden truths within himself and the world around him.

Character Background
Marcus is 15 summers old and serves as a big brother figure to Higant. Their relationship is built on a strong bond rather than blood ties, and they share a very close connection.
Marcus was orphaned from a young age, and although the details of his parents remain a mystery, there is talk that he once had a mother who deeply loved him and a father who truly cared. Sadly, both were lost many years ago, leaving Marcus to be placed with others for his upbringing. Before his parents disappeared, arrangements had been made for Marcus to become a squire to Lord Baron Vandeguilds, a position he holds with pride and dedication.
He and Higant are known for their mischievous nature, often exploring their surroundings and seeking out fun adventures. The baron places great trust in Marcus, entrusting him with important tasks, especially as he is the most senior among his squires.
Role in the story
Marcus is a central character in the story In the Depths of a Man’s Mind.
Tasked by Lord Baron Vandeguild to find a companion, Marcus embarks on what seems like a simple errand. However, upon his return, he experiences a haunting encounter that he will never forget and stumbles upon the shocking discovery that the baron has been brutally murdered.
This grim revelation thrusts Marcus into a journey far beyond anything he could have anticipated. Along the way, he is kidnapped and transported through the mysterious “Void” across treacherous lands.
During this harrowing ordeal, dormant abilities within Marcus awaken, enabling him to escape captivity. He is then found by Pip, a kind-hearted man deeply connected to nature.
After Marcus is aided and healed by Kyruarth, a close friend of Pip’s, the two forge a strong bond of friendship. Together, they journey back to Neleuwen via Sonder, where Pip’s network of friends offers them support.
Their path is fraught with danger, as they are relentlessly pursued by Crimson, culminating in a dramatic and ultimate confrontation in the Chamber of Life.
Character Development Arc
Marcus's development in the story was consistently centered around his unwavering support for Higant. Their deep and strong bond served as the essential catalyst that sparked the movement driving much of the narrative throughout the story.
His personal growth not only reinforced this connection but also nurtured another significant thread that becomes more prominent in the second book. This thread explores their relationship as brothers in bond rather than in blood.
Each character carries their own past and unique history, yet together they unite their strengths and experiences to bring the long-foretold prophecy to its ultimate and final conclusion.
