Higant - Young Squire of Neleuwan.
Higant
Higant is a young boy, just 11 summers old, who serves as a squire. His friend Marcus is ever by his side, and the two are inseparable companions in their many adventures. Higant was notably smaller than the other squires, his slight frame making him appear almost delicate. The attire of a squire that he wore seemed to swim on him, hanging loosely and accentuating his unique stature. Despite his diminutive size, the depth of his voice, rich and resonant, belied his impish figure and surprised those who heard him speak. His face was often covered in smudges of dirt, a testament to the playful escapades he indulged in.
He was most unusual for a squire, and his presence felt quite out of place among the other boys, who were taller and more robust.
Higant harbors a secret within himself, one that will eventually be discovered, but to unlock its mystery, he must embark on a journey of self-discovery that will lead him to explore what lies buried deep inside his mind.

Character Background
Higant has no recorded history before the age of five years old. He was orphaned at a very young age, and there is no known information about who his parents were, making their identities a complete mystery to everyone. Higant is no older than eleven summers, still a child by many accounts. He is physically small in stature, yet occasionally he displays a surprising maturity that seems to contradict his youthful appearance.
Among the other squires, he is often teased and jostled; while they give him a hard time, they also look out for him in their own way. The squires share a dormitory, where they support and hold one another accountable, forming a tight-knit group that relies on each other both in training and in daily life.
Higant has served as a squire for several years, and was given the opportunity to become Lord Baron Vandeguild's squire after Marcus, already a friend and fellow orphan who had grown up in similar circumstances, advocated for his consideration. From the beginning, Higant and Marcus formed a strong bond, united by their shared past and current journey.
Role in the story
Higants is a seemingly normal young boy who has a natural penchant for mischief and fun, always eager to embrace adventure. While he holds the important responsibility of serving as a squire to Lord Baron Vandeguild, Higants remains youthful and spirited, filled with a strong desire to explore the world beyond his immediate surroundings alongside his close friend.
Higant is a central character whose compelling journey takes him far beyond the familiar walls and lands of Neleuwen, venturing into distant and diverse places such as Pillton, the heat filled terrains of Gyrockgenci (Hotlands), and even reaching the far-flung regions of Cantolaria.
Accompanying him on this journey is Vandrune, a powerful Mage and trusted Advisor to Kings. Their quest begins with the search for his missing friend Marcus, but as the journey unfolds, Higant discovers hidden abilities and shared visions with Vandrune, which deepen their bond and expand their purpose.
These visions guide them toward the lands of Cantolaria, but before they can arrive, they encounter Kyraurth—an encounter that dramatically shifts their course and changes everything.
Higant’s story lies at the heart of “In the Depths of a Man’s Mind,” and his journey lays the critical foundation for the unfolding saga that awaits.
Character Development Arc
He begins his story as a loyal squire for Lord Baron Vandeguild, the king’s cousin, serving faithfully in the noble household. His world is thrown into complete disarray when the Baron is suddenly killed under mysterious circumstances, with no clear reason or motive for the death.
Adding to his turmoil, Crimson kidnaps his closest friend, Marcus, who is not related by blood but bonded as a brother in spirit. This devastating event propels Higant on a perilous journey to rescue Marcus, accompanied by Vandrune. Along the way, Higant uncovers many hidden truths about himself—qualities and strengths that had never been evident before. “It is amazing to me that we stand here with a boy, no older than eleven summers, reciting knowledge thought lost to history,” remarks Vandrune.
With the support of Vandrune, Kyruarth, The Luminary, and the king, Higant begins unlocking the mysteries surrounding his and Marcus’s heritage, as well as their newly awakened powers. These revelations set the stage for the ultimate confrontation in the Chamber of Life, where destinies will be decided.
